TELEM YOTVATA An Educational Program for Young Ethiopian Immigrants
TELEM Yotvata is a special Educational Program for Young Ethiopian Immigrants I Kibbutz Yotvata in the Arava Valley in southern Israel. The program is a part of TELEM, a large project involving about 12 Kibbutz that host young Ethiopian Immigrants. The participants work within the Kibbutz, they get their accommodation there and they chose their own study program. The" TELEM" program obligates the students to learn a profession, or to complete their matriculation exams, psychometric exams or university entrance course exams.
"TELEM" the basic program is for 15 month, but in Yotvata we think this period of time is too short to achieve the goals of decreasing the social gapes those young people have due to their life story. TELEM Yotvata program offers them to stay in Yotvata up to 3 years.
Presently in Kibbutz Yotvata we have 10-12 participants. All of them are born in Ethiopia and "made Alia", (emigrated) to Israel as children, with parents, or relatives. Many of these kids have learning difficulties and hardly finished high school.
Some have difficulties in the army service. They all need tender love and care, in order for them to integrate and built trust with the community. They lack many daily life skills. They have difficulties in their work places as well as with their employers.
Kibbutz Yotvata provide warm safety place and trustful community. The kibbutz provides those kids with pleasant room and environment, equipped with all modern days features such as TV and PC, social activities, psychological assistance. if needed, and medical care.
We believe that after three years with us those Ethiopian born kids will become more adaptable to society, as they are provided with the right tools to deal with the challenges life will present to them.
